Research Study Title
Defending oneself from attacks on the self: preliminary validation of a self-report questionnaire and exploration of links with self-state regulation.

Researcher Responsible for the Research Study

Purpose of the Research Study
The aims of this research project are: (1) to validate a questionnaire used to measure reactions to attacks on the self, and (2) to explore links with mechanisms for regulating states of the self.

Description of the Research Procedures
As an adult, you are invited to take part in this research project. Your participation in this project consists of completing an online questionnaire containing three questionnaires. The questionnaire includes some socio-demographic questions, questions about the defensive reactions an individual may adopt when his or her self is attacked in any way, and questions about the ability to regulate self-esteem. You'll need approximately 45 minutes to complete them. If you wish to take a break, you can save your answers and continue at a more convenient time, by clicking the ''Save and Continue'' button at the end of each page.

Potential Benefits
By participating in this project, you will contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of psychology.

If you wish, we can send you a summary of the study results when they are completed. There will be a space to provide your email on the last page of this questionnaire.

Potential Risks
Your participation should not involve any significant inconveniences, other than taking up some of your time. If some items feel uncomfortable to you, you can find psychological resources here:

You can also withdraw from this project at any time, by closing your web browser window without completing the questionnaire. Your data will then be automatically deleted. If you withdraw from the study but you had already saved some answers, the data available will nonetheless be store and used to protect the scientific integrity of the research project. Once you have completed and submited the questionnaire, it will be impossible to destroy the data, since no identifying information has been collected.

Confidentiality
During your participation in this research project, the researcher in charge will collect and record in a research file the answers and other information you provide. Only information required to meet the scientific goals of the study will be collected. No personal information is requested or collected. Neither your IP address nor your e-mail address will be included in the data, and no cookies will be stored on your computer. Participation is anonymous, i.e. it is impossible to trace the participant.

Even if you provide your email at the end of the survey, you will only be identified by a code number and the email will not be linked to your answers. Providing your email thus only informs the researchers that you took part in the study. Your email will be kept confidential and only accessible to the main researcher. Once the summary of findings is sent, all email addresses will be destroyed.

Information on the security measures of the online data collection provider can be consulted at the following address: https://simplesondage.com/plateforme/securite-et-confidentialite.

The data may be published or shared during scientific meetings and could be used secondarily in the main researcher’s thesis. The study data will be stored indefinitely on the Université de Sherbrooke servers to be able to meet scientific publication requirements.
